Malappuram Police unit bounded on the north by Wayanad and Kozhikode City districts, on the northeast by Tamil Nadu State, on the southeast and south by Palakkad District, on the southwest by Thrissur Rural District, on the west by the Arabian Sea and on the northwest by Kozhikode City District.
The District Police Office, District Special Branch, District Head Quarters (Administration), District Crime Records Bureau, District 'C' Branch, Narcotic Cell, District Police Control Room, Cyber Cell, Women Cell and Telecommunication Unit are housed at the head quarters of Malappuram District and Coastal Police Station at Ponnani, District Armed Reserve Camp at Padinhattummuri, Traffic Units at Malappuram, Manjeri, Kondotty, Perinthalmanna and Tirur are other organs of the District Police. For the maintenance of law and order Malappuram Police Unit is subdivided into 3 Sub Divisions and 34 Police Stations.
